The power of "Scared"

Scared is such a powerful emotion. You would think it’s there to protect us, but it ends up hurting us more often than not. How many times have you decided not to do something, just because you were scared?

I’m not referring to skydiving, fighting zombies, or eating sea urchin. I’m talking about life’s big risks. Like attending a networking event all by yourself, ditching a not-so-healthy relationship, or selling everything and moving to Belize.

My husband has to opportunity to quit his job and go into a partnership with a friend. We have spent the past two weeks going over every single detail. It actually sounds like a great opportunity, but he is hesitant to make the change. Why? Because we are scared. Scared to loose money, scared that the company will fail, and scared that the friendship will be ruined.

It all comes down to fear of the unknown. Like a little kid afraid of the dark. What scares us are all the things we don’t know. Our mind blows things out of proportion, focusing on the might-be’s and worst case scenarios.

It’s time to stop listening to that nervous feeling deep down in your gut. Be honest with yourself and ask, “What is the worst that can happen?” Take the risk. Just do it!
